AIRPODS PRO: SPATIAL AUDIO TECHNOLOGY IS COMING, THAT'S WHAT IT IS
The WWDC keynote held by Apple marked the debut of an unexpected novelty for the many users in possession of AirPods and AirPods Pro . Craig Federighi, almost muted, announced two interesting features that will arrive concurrently with iOS 14 on wireless earphones, which have now become a real goose that lays golden eggs for the Cupertino company.
Of these functions, one is common to all AirPods models,
while the other will be available exclusively on the Pro variant launched last
year.

Spatial Audio comes to AirPods Pro
The most important news undoubtedly concerns the AirPods
Pro, which will be able to offer an immersive 360 ° audio experience thanks to
Spatial Audio with dynamic head-tracking .
With this technology, the audio will be compatible with
Dolby 5.1, 7.1 and also Dolby Atmos . Particularly interesting is the approach
that Apple engineers have adopted to remedy the lack of multiple speakers,
unlike what happens in the home entertainment field with soundbars that have
already been able to offer a cinematic experience of this type for a few
months.
To do this, Apple made use of the accelerometer integrated
in the individual earphones of the AirPods Pro . Spatial Audio makes sure that
thesound "remains stationary" regardless of the movements of the head
, to give the sensation of being immersed at 360 ° in the audio or video
content being played from your devices.
Using the accelerometer and gyroscope, the AirPods will be
able to monitor head movements to remap the sound fields accordingly. So
imagine using the AirPods while watching a movie or a TV series: the actor's
voice will always come, for example, from the right even if you move. A not
insignificant aspect that deserves mention is that the support for Spatial
Audio will be available on all devices associated with the AirPods Pro .
The activation of the Spatial Audio will probably be
possible through the settings of the headphones, in a similar way to what
happen with the noise cancellation and the transparency mode, and certainly
more information will emerge in the coming weeks. Apple only marginally talked
about it on stage, but it's an update that will make a lot of users happy.
Automatic switch between devices
Also worthy of mention is the automatic switch between
associated devices . Apple, relying on iCloud, has made sure that the earphones
automatically switch the connection to the most suitable device among those in
use.
During the conference, the example of a user who listens to
music on his iPhone and then starts playing a video on his MacBook was given:
the AirPods will make the instant switch and the audio feed of the computer
will be played in the ear rather than that smartphone.
The same can also happen in reverse: imagine watching a
movie on your iMac and receiving a call on the iPhone, the latter will be given
priority to allow you to listen to your interlocutor.
In the official documentation, Apple has specified that this
novelty will be available on AirPods Pro, second generation AirPods,
Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro .
